 ASK THE EXPERT -
I recently had a fire in my Apt. my landlords deductable is 10k and the damage is to one room only wth the fire department sparying only a few gallons of water. The electrical looks like knob and tube. All apts have a sperate breaker box. I was curious if it would be worth replacing the old wiring in my apt as I have good access to electricians? The ceiling in the living room will be taken out as that is where the fire started, Beyond the that there is a light in the ceiling of the kitchen-w/one out let in the kitchen...one in the batroom over the vanity and 2 out lets in bedroom with one ceiling fan. I am going to flip the bill for my landlord. I can do everything short of getting the inspection done. Is it going to be worth upgrading the wiring to get it \"safer\"? I am looking at about 500 to fix the drywall in the ceiling and not sure what it would cost for the wiring upgrade, but I have estimated that there will be less then 200 ft worth of wire in the place total. I live in the uptown area...Thanks for your help.

Yes , Get an State  Licensed electrician to check it out.
